Human Grade Cat Food

Why Back to Basics® Cat Food?

Cats are carnivores. Therefore, for their bodies to function properly, they require protein from high quality, highly digestible protein sources. Most commercial cat foods derive their protein from low quality vegetable proteins; therefore, our cats are not getting the amount of protein needed. BACK TO BASICS® for Cats uses only human quality protein, with a digestibility level of 95%. This ensures that our cats are getting the protein levels needed for optimum health.

BACK TO BASICS INGREDIENTS

The highest priority for Beowulf's Back to Basics® is the quality of its ingredients. All ingredients come from human sources, and are hormone free and antibiotic free. Beowulf's Back to Basics® is a meat-based product that is high in fat (which has been shown to be of paramount importance to the health of animals). Chelated minerals have been added (which are highly digestible), digestive enzymes (further increasing digestibility, ensuring that the animal is receiving the maximum amount of nutrition from the food), yucca (which helps reduce stool odor by 30%), and carrots. To top off this list of premium ingredients, we have added Vitamin C (a strong immune system builder) andVitamin E (a natural preservative)

TOP TEN BACK TO BASICS® INGREDIENTS

CHICKEN MEAL
The chicken meal and pork meal used to produce Back to Basics® has passed USDA inspection and is certified Grade A, and steroid and antibiotic free. To be labeled "free" means that they were not added nor were they ever present in the meat. This is a growing concern for the pet food consumer as they are becoming more educated on nutrition for their animals. The "meal" means that it is dried and ground before weighing so that our protein source is truly the first ingredient in the food, unlike most foods, which are weighed in their wet state (80% water weight).

CHICKEN
The same USDA inspected, certified Grade A chicken that we use for our chicken meal is added to offer cats the higher protein levels they require, while maintaining the superior quality of ingredients and superior formulation that makes Back to Basics Food for Cats number one rated in the United States.

BROWN RICE
Our rice is inspected and rated for human consumption. (Uncle Ben's Brown Rice)

CORN
Our corn comes from a select group of growers in the mid-west and is certified non-GMO (Genetically Modified). The non-GMO is another concern for pet enthusiasts. Corn is 91% digestible, one of the best sources of linoleic acid and Omega 6 & 3 fatty acids, provides essential amino acids and fiber. Corn is nutritionally superior grain compared with others because it contains a balance of nutrients not found in other grains, and it is known as the "King of Carbohydrates". Back to Basics® corn is more expensive than most because it is human grade!

CHICKEN FAT
Our chicken fat comes from the same USDA inspected chicken that we eat at our table.

MIXED TOCOPHEROLS
(VITAMIN E, CITRIC ACID, & ROSEMARY EXTRACT) Natural preservatives

OATMEAL
Our oatmeal is inspected and rated for human consumption. (Quaker Brand Oatmeal)

TOMATO POMACE
A great source of fiber and is very high in Lycopene, a natural antioxidant.

DRIED WHOLE EGG
A highly digestible source of protein that has been inspected and rated for human consumption.

HERRING
Our herring comes from a domestic hatchery on the Pacific Coast where the fish have proven to be free of Ethoxyquin (a known carcinogenic). Though Back to Basics® is an east coast based company, we go across the country to get the best herring available. Quality and attention to detail make the difference between truly superior products.

F.U.S.

To guard against Feline Urologic Syndrome (F.U.S.) Back to Basics uses only the highest quality of chicken and chicken meal available. This helps to maintain the proper acidic urinary PH levels. This also helps to keep the ash content low...

ASH

When meat is cooked, ash is produced. The ash content in cat food is proportional to the amount of meat in the food. In other words, the higher the meat content, the higher the ash.   However high quality meat produces less ash than low quality meat. Back to Basics uses only the highest quality meats available and, therefore, has the least ash content possible which is approximately 6 1/2%. (The only way to get lower ash content is to supplement cheap vegetable proteins)
